My Waterway @ Punggol

My Waterway @ Punggol is a 4.2km waterway which meanders through Punggol Town and acts as a major park connector between Serangoon and Punggol Reservoir.

The waterway boasts a range of recreational facilities with exciting water-based activities and cycling. It educates visitors through the heritage panels along the Heartwave wall and the heritage trail along the scenic promenade.

This Namma Deepavali meaning Our Deepavali was a joint-event by Pek Kio Community Centre's IAEC/MAEC/WEC & SCEC, Moulmein Owen RC, Moulmein Tekka RC and Moulmein Ah Hood Gardens RC, on 5 November 2011 at 7.00pm, at Pek Kio Basketball Court. More than 500 participants have attended this celebration.

The Guest-of-Honour is Mr Lui Tuck Yew - Minister for Transport & Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, MP for Moulmein-Kallang GRC.

Changi City Point - Singapore's newest mall

Singapore's newest shopping mall - Changi City Point was opened on 5 November 2011.

It is located at the junction of Changi South Avenue 1 and 2 (directly opposite Singapore Expo MRT station).

Changi City Point features popular and new stores such as Tung Lok Signatures’ third outlet in Singapore, Ootoya, Ajisen Ramen, The Manhattan Fish Market and key retailers such as Challenger, Apple Concept Store, Cold Storage and Gain City. New F&B concepts include Egg & Berries, G7 Express Café, Perkies, The Thai Kitchen & Roast and Yogurt Plus. Joining them are Bagus, a halal certified food court and Koufu.

The mall will also be the home to VSA (Very Special Arts Singapore) a charity providing opportunities for people with disabilities to access the visual, performing and literary Arts for the purpose of rehabilitation and social integration.

Moulmein @ Pulau Semakau Landfill

Moulmein residents visited this island on 5 November 2011.

Before the birth of Semakau Landfill, Pulau Sakeng and Pulau Semakau are two Singapore southern islands located next to Pulau Bukom where the refinery of Shell Eastern Petroleum is located since 1970s. The distance between Singapore mainland and the two islands is about 7km from Pasir Panjang Ferry Terminal.

In the late 1980s, when it was clear that the only dumpling ground at Lorong Halus on mainland would not be able to cope with the increasing amount of solid waste, Singapore Government decided to develop a new offshore landfill to meet the disposal needs well into 21st century. The offshore landfill, named Semakau Landfill, was created by enclosing the sea space between Pulau Sakeng and Pulau Semakau. In addition, a transfer station, named Tuas Marine Transfer Station, was to be built to receive and transfer the waste from mainland to Semakau Landfill.

Pulau Sakeng was home to a small Malay Kampong community of about 40 families of fishermen, According to the legends, “Sakeng” is the name of a young lady. To make way for the development of Semakau Landfill, all residents were resettled to mainland in early 1990s.

Pulau Semakau is an uninhabited island since 1980s. The name “Semakau” originates from the indigenous plant on the island called “Bakau”, which is mangrove in Malay. A prefix “Sri” was added and the name evolved over time to become “Semakau”. In addition to the mangrove, Pulau Semakau is also rich in other flora and fauna and its shorelines are habitats of a wide variety of marine biodiversity.

Walk on water at MacRitchie Reservoir 's Submerged Boardwalk

Visitors to MacRitchie Reservoir Park can now be able to walk on water — at a new submerged boardwalk.

Visitors will be able to walk through shallow waters to see water plants growing alongside the boardwalk and be in close contact with tadpoles, fish, snails and other aquatic life.

Water plants are introduced as they help to purify rainwater before it flows into the reservoir.

Punggol Waterway - Next Trip

This bridge leads to Lorong Halus, was formerly a landfill site till 1979.

LOCATION 1

The above Red Bridge will link you over Serangoon Reservoir to Lorong Halus Wetland. To go there, just take LRT ride from Punggol LRT Station and alight at Riviera LRT Station. Just a short walk from Riviera LRT Station, there are 3 Food and beverage oulets - Fricazie Bistro & Bar, Xian Restaurant & Bar and Asahi Shin Nichi. Uncle Leong Seafood and a fast-food outlet - Popeyes, is also opened in the area. These Riverside Walk features exercise stations with cycling and jogging tracks and lookout points that allow visitors to get closer to the water. Near to the Red Bridge also housed a Golf Driving Range with a KFC outlets. Others facilities including Hai Bin Prawn pond and Sports Planets.

LOCATION 2.

For Location 2. You can reached there by LRT - alight at Damai Station. Or park your car at Treelodge@Punggol carpark - this park is just across the main road. Alternate route is by bus service No 84 from Punggol Bus Interchange and alight once you sight the river (Park) along Punggol Road.

These 2 locations are about 500 to 1000 meters apart and are linked. But at the time of my visit these 2 locations are barricaded by wooden wall. When officially opened you can walk along the river from the dam near Punggol Station to Riveria Station. Distance should be about 2km to 3km long.

The 3rd Location should be from Punggol Point Jetty along Punggol Promenade to the above Location 2. Punggol Promenade is a 5-kilometer long public waterfront promenade serving as a key pedestrian connector for the future Punggol Waterfront Town.

Night at the Henderson Waves - Our Next Night Tour

Henderson Waves and Alexandra Arch

Henderson Waves - Singapore's highest pedestrian bridge. It spans Henderson Road to connect Mount Faber Park to Telok Blangah Hill Park.

Alexandra Arch - looks like an opened leaf across Alexandra Road. It continues to Forest Walk, which is made up of an elevated walkway for pedestrian and earth trails for cyclists through the secondary forest of Telok Blangah Hill Park.
